The Central Bank of Solomon Islands is warning the public to beware of counterfeit local 50 dollar notes circulating the country.
This follows several counterfeit or fake 50 dollar Solomon Island notes deposited with one of the commercial banks in Honiara and Auki.
The bank wants people in rural areas, businesses, government agencies and churches to properly check all currency notes before accepting them.
The genuine 50 dollar note has a woven silver thread, partially exposed and visible to the eye, and cannot be easily broken.
The central bank believes a computer scanner or highly sensitive colour photocopier may have been used to produce the counterfeit notes.
