The American Samoan Attorney General, Fiti Sunia, has advised government departments not to respond to any new subpoenas issued by the Senate Select Investigative Committee.
In a memorandum, Mr Sunia has advised directors that by law, the SSIC expired at the close of the 28th Legislature on September the 13th.
He says, accordingly, the SSIC no longer has authority to investigate or to subpoena witnesses, or request information in connection with any supposed investigation.
Mr Sunia says no government employee or cabinet member should reply to any requests and to contact his office immediately.
The Committee had already issued several subpoenas for Government officials to appear for questioning next week.
