Call in Fiji for disciplinary action on Seniloli pay

9:17 am on 17 September 2004

The Fiji Democratic Party is calling for disciplinary action against those responsible for the continued payment of salaries to the jailed vice president, Ratu Jope Seniloli and the imprisoned deputy speaker, Ratu Rakuita Vakalabure.

The party leader, Filipe Bole, says the Public Service Commission should penalise the chief executive of the Prime Minister's Office, Jioji Kotobalavu, in the same way it disciplines other public servants who breach its code of ethics.

The secretary to the President's Office, Paula Kunabuli, says the instructions for the continued payment of salaries came from Mr Kotobalavu.

Meanwhile the acting chief executive of the Public Service Commission, Kaminieli Wainibalagi, says the commission will investigate and impose a surcharge if it's found that a chief executive officer was responsible for the payment.
