PNG minister angry at gun summit delay

8:30 am on 18 September 2004

The Papua New Guinea internal security minister is angry his proposed gun summit is to be delayed until early next year.

Bire Kimisopa says he's also surprised to learn through a third party that the summit will also include the drugs issue.

The Post Courier reports Mr Kimisopa as disappointed at the delay, and at not being consulted over the inclusion of the drugs issue in the summit.

Mr Kimisopa says although he acknowledges the gun crisis and drugs problem are related, he doesn't want the seriousness of the gun issue to be clouded by any others.
