Vanuatu PM set to appeal contempt charges

8:33 am on 18 September 2004

The Prime Minister of Vanuatu, Serge Vohor, has appealed against charges of contempt that he faces relating to comments he made in parliament.

Mr Vohor last week accused the courts of bowing to foreign influence when the Supreme Court ordered the parliament to allow a vote of no confidence.

Serge Vohor also called the chief justice Vincent Lunabek a "pikanini blong white man" or the white man's child.

A date has yet to be set for the hearing in the Appeal court.
