Reports from Solomon Islands say the speaker of parliament, Sir Peter Kenilorea, is seeking legal advice about the appointment of the former opposition leader to become a minister.

Parliamentary sources say the speaker, Sir Peter Kenilorea, is questioning the appointment of John Garo in June as the minister of state assisting the prime minister.

The sources say Sir Peter is of the opinion that the appointment may be illegal because Mr Garo's line of duties was not include in the notice to Government House when he was chosen for the position.

Mr Garo is in charge of the public service department in the office of the prime minister.
