1:47 pm on 24 September 2004

Submissions are being heard at the Supreme Court in Vanuatu today in a contempt case involving the Prime Minister, Serge Vohor.

Mr Vohor is charged with making disparaging comments in Parliament about the Chief Justice, Vincent Lunabeck, and faces jail and a hefty fine if convicted.

The registrar of the Supreme Court, John Alilee, says the hearing of submissions in the case should be complete by the end of the day or early tomorrow at the latest.

He says a decision can be expected after that.

Mr Vohor is currently not in the country.
