Tensions are reported to be high among two major tribes in Papua New Guinea's Western Highlands after a dispute lead to a man being killed.

The conflict led to parts of Mt Hagen coming to a standstill yesterday after a man was stabbed to death and two others kidnapped in retaliation.

Jika and Moge tribesmen confirmed both the death and the kidnappings.

Leaders from both sides were negotiating for peace yesterday, amid a major search for the two kidnapped men.
