There's relief in Vanuatu that a rare pig's tusk has been returned to the National Museum.

The two circled tusk , which had been loaned by Britain's Queen Elizabeth, had been on display in the museum for thirty years, until it was reported stolen last week.

The tusk was out of its case, for photographing, before it went missing.

It was returned, by an unnamed shop owner, after reports of the theft in the the local media.

The shopowner says they had paid a local about 100 US dollars for it.

The director of the museum, Ralph Revanvanu, says they are thankful to get the tusk back.

"A very very big relief. Everyone's relieved. And in fact now that's the news has come out its come back, everyone's expressing relief that I meet in the streets, that it was a terrible thing it was taken but its a great thing its come back now"

Ralph Revanvanu says the incident has prompted the museum to increase security.
