Fiji to seek clarification of who would be acting President in absence of Ratu Josefa Iloilo

The Fiji President's Office is seeking legal clarification on who should act as president if Ratu Josefa Iloilo has to travel out of the country.

Normally the vice president would act, but the current holder of the office, Seniloli, is serving a four-year jail term for being sworn in as the usurper president during the coup.

The secretary to the President's Office, Paula Kunabuli, has told Radio Legend that in the absence of President Iloilo and with Seniloli is in jail, the Speaker of the House of Representatives would be entitled to act in the position.

But Mr Kunabuli says legal clarification is required on what steps would have to be taken if President Iloilo has to travel overseas.

84-year old President Iloilo requires regular medical reviews in Australia but has not travelled abroad since Seniloli was jailed two months ago.
