Solomon Islands Assistant Police Commissioner Crime says domestic violence is much more common in upper class families than poorer ones.
Assistant Commissioner Crime, Johnson Siapu says police statistics are now revealing the majority of domestic violence cases are occurring in upper class homes.
"(It's) very serious among the very high people. That goes for politicians, and sadly, even ministers. Other big people include the government, public service and so on."
Commissioner Siapu says more worrying is the ever increasing number of rape and incest cases being reported to police.
He says as a result a Sexual Assault Investigation Unit will be set up in the Police force to combat this trend.
