10:34 am on 13 October 2004

Lawyers defending seven Pitcairn Islanders against sex charges have been granted the right to challenge the trial process before Britain's Privy Council.

A spokesman for the New Zealand British High Commissioner Richard Fell, who is also the Governor of Pitcairn, has confirmed the decision.

The spokesman says they are still waiting to see the ruling and cannot say how it might affect the trials and their outcomes.
