The United Nations wants Samoa to send police officers to Haiti to help with restoring law and order.

The Samoa Observer quotes the Police Minister, Ulu Vaomalo Ulu Kini, as saying the UN request has been lodged.

He says they have yet to confirm the number of police officers required, and when they would have to be deployed to Haiti before presenting the plan to Cabinet.

The Police Minister says he believes Samoa's performance in missions in East Timor, Liberia and Solomon Islands have led to the UN request.
