Samoa Government slammed for not training enough teachers to fill new classrooms

8:39 pm on 14 October 2004

The Samoa opposition leader says donors and contributions by villages are funding new school buildings but the Government is not playing its part by supplying enough teachers.

School buildings have been opening with increasing frequency and Le Mamea Ropati says the first to be thanked must be donor organisations for providing funds.

Le Mamea says it's not government money, but aid funding from Japan and the European Union, added to help provided by villages.

But he says government is not fullfilling its part of supplying these new schools with sufficient teachers.

Le Mamea says it's useless constructing a building, as children go there and sing songs but are not educated well because there are not enough teachers.
