New Caledonian court orders end to RFO blockade

A New Caledonian court has ordered the immediate expulsion of striking workers who have paralysed the public broadcaster, RFO, for two months.

It is now up to the French high commission to determine whether to use force against the dozen striking workers at the Noumea premises.

The station, which employs about 150 people, has been unable to produce and carry local news since the action began in August over disagreements about the contract of one employee.

Last week, other union members blocked the RFO station in the territory's north in Kone in a protest described by the provincial president as irresponsible.
