A Hawaii-based man has won the world's leading wildlife photography competition.

Doug Perrine has become World Wildlife Photographer of the Year.

His winning shot shows two sharks rounding up a mass of sardines and gulping them down in mouthfuls.

The photograph was taken in South Africa but Mr Perrine has now returned to Hawaii where he is filming a documentary on sharks around the islands.

Mr Perrine wins 30-thousand US dollars with the picture - which was selected from more than 18-thousand entries.
