Marshall Islands move to outlaw tinted windows in cars

2:20 pm on 22 October 2004

A committee of the Marshall Islands parliament, the Nitijela, is supporting a measure to outlaw tinted windows on road vehicles.

The bill will also require taxi drivers to prove they do not have tuberculosis or other communicable diseases, in an effort to reduce the spread of illness in the Marshall Islands.

The Health Minister Alvin Jacklick says the bill will help to stop the spread of illness, by insuring that anyone applying for a chauffeur's license must provide certification from the Ministry of Health that they have been checked for communicable diseases.

The Justice Minister Donald Capelle, who co-sponsored the bill with Mr Jacklick, said the ban on tinted windows will help police to identify drunk drivers and other suspects in vehicles.
