Tuvalu's Prime Minister says he hopes new Leadership Bill will make Government more accountable

Tuvalu's Prime Minister, Matia Toafa, has expressed his hope that a proposed Leadership Code Bill will act as a watchdog for the island nation's politicians and leaders.

The PACNEWs news agency reports that the Prime Minister, speaking at the launch of a national consultation on the issue described the bill is significant in many ways.

He says it reminds people that good leadership has to be taught and leaders have to educate themselves of the ethics of good leadership."

The Prime Minister told the consultations that it is the intention of his government to clearly define and set parameters to ensure that the leaders better adhere to the concept of accountable government.
