A team is being established to probe the death of a Catholic Priest allegedly shot by the military in the Indonesian province of Papua.

Provincial parliament speaker John Ibo says the team, which will comprise Papuan rights activists and military representatives, will investigate the death of Elisa Tabuni in the Puncak Jaya district on September 14.

Human rights groups have claimed Elisa was shot in the head by soldiers when he refused to reveal the whereabouts of his relative, Golaith Tabuni.

Goliath is the alleged leader of a Papuan separatist group, which the army says, killed six workers in the area the day before.
