10:14 am on 4 November 2004

The United States Department of Labour has contracted the University of Tennessee to carry out a labour survey in American Samoa that should be completed early next year in time for the 2005 minimum wage review in the territory.

The survey will begin on November 8th and end on November 19th with representatives visiting all industries in the territory to gather information and interview employers.

American Samoa's minimum wage is reviewed every two years.

Current wage rates range from US$2.57, at the lowest, to US$4.09 per hour the highest rate.

There has been no rate increase since 2001.
