Three charged with firearms possession in Solomons capital

Police in Solomon Islands have charged three people for possession of firearms, following raids on several houses in Honiara.

The deputy police commissioner, Sandi Peisley, says eight firearms were recovered in the raids.

Deputy commissioner Peisley says, as well as weapons, police found ammunition and cannabis.

"I would like to think that all firearms had been surrendered during the amnesty, however that would be naive, so there are obviously still guns out there, so our focus will remain on seizing those weapons and destroying those weapons."

Sandi Peisley says police are appealing to the public to come forward with any information on anyone thought to be possessing firearms.
