France has promised to give state assistance to help develop tourism in New Caledonia.
The French minister for tourism, Leon Bertrand, says the state can help out with promotion, council contracts and tax relief.
For the last twenty years, the number of tourists visiting New Caledonia each year has remained steady at a hundred thousand.
Mr Bertrand has completed a three-day visit to the territory for a conference involving councils in French overseas territories.
New Caledonia tourism stakeholders want MPs to consider a joint tourist development plan.
