The police commander for the Papua New Guinea province of West Sepik says the region is prone to transnational criminals.
Commander Joe Poema says his officers don't have the resources to secure the border between PNG and Indonesia.
Joe Poema has asked the government to send man-power and finances his way, to combat gun and people smuggling.
Mr Poema says urgent help is needed.
"We have not enough man-power and we don't have the logistics and the know-how to keep us and people are using the sea to travel in and out during night hours."
Commander Poema says the border is very important to the region.
This seems to be the bridge to Asia and the bridge to the West and so basically the land is certainly an open enviroment that people can use if you're not taking any quick measures.
