American Samoa senator: Police commissioner should quit

9:07 am on 13 November 2004

The Senate Select Investigative Committee in American Samoa is calling for the immediate resignation of the Police Commissioner, Tuiteleleapaga Peseta.

The committee chairman, Senator Lualemaga Faoa, says he's concerned about the police commissioner's alleged involvement with attempting to have a purported prison inmate vote, in the last general election.

Lualemaga's claim was based on a Samoa News story last week in which the Police Commissioner admitted to taking the inmate to a polling station but the person, purported to have been in custody, did not vote.

Lualemaga has written a letter of concern addressed to the governor's officem, which has not yet responded to the recommendation.
