Solomon Islands education officials wary of so called Cornell University

The Director for the College of Higher Education in Solomon Islands says the National Education department should be consulted on education institute applications, before the Foreign Trade Investment Board.

The Foreign Trade Invesment Board has issued a certificate of approval for an Australian company Uniworld College, to set up a school it is calling Cornell University.

The famous American university of the same name says it is in no way linked to the planned institute.

The National Education Board has deferred the decision on whether to register it, and Gabriel Taloikwai says the NEB should be consulted first.

"The criteria and conditions necessary for establishing an education institutions. Nothing at all. Its not relevant to a business finance investment proposal. There's no relevance."
