The Australian airline Pacific Blue is expected to announce an increase in flights to Fiji.

The chief executive, Brett Godfrey, has told a Securities Institute meeting in Melbourne that the company expects to announce a daily service soon.

Mr Godfrey said the company was looking at growing through freight and Asian opportunities and hoped to make an announcement within six months.

Mr Godfrey is cautious about the airline's short-term outlook, but he says the firm sees a more positive future from March.

Pacific Blue's parent company, Virgin Blue, has reported a better-than-expected two per cent fall in half-year net profit to US$50 million.
