The Vanuatu opposition says the Prime Minister Serge Vohor's attempt to extend diplomatic recognition to Taiwan is creating uncertainty in the country, prompting it to plan for a vote of no confidence next week.

Parliament has debated the plan to allow Taiwan to set up a delegation and the Prime Minister's spokesman, Kal Moli, says MPs will vote on the issue next week.

The Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Edward Natapei, says there are clear divisions within the Government and the Prime Minister is exploiting these as he continues to push to have representation from both Taiwan and China.

Mr Natapei says the Opposition will bring a motion of no confidence because it wants to clear the confusion created by the Prime Minister.

"As a result causing a great deal of uncertainty in the country and also other things like how they have handled issues in relation to the public service directors' general. They are talking about a lot of things they want to do that are creating uncetainty and problems in the public service."
