President Bush signs Guam tree snake bill into law

10:36 am on 24 November 2004

The American government has approved an appropriation of 15 and a half million US dollars over four years to stamp out the brown tree snake in Guam - and halt its spread across the northern Pacific.

The snakes have decimated the bird population on Guam.

The money will be spent on greater co-operation and the establishment of rapid response teams in the CNMI, Guam, Hawaii, Palau, the Marshall Islands and the Federated States of Micronesia.
