In Solomon Islands, a former MP, Daniel Enele Kwanairara, has been re-elected in the by-election for the North Malaita constituency.

Mr Kwanairara won ahead of another former MP, the Reverend Michael Maeliau.

More than five thousand voters turned out for the by-election, which was for the seat vacated by the jailing of government minister Daniel Fa'afanua.

Meanwhile in the Ulawa-Ugi constituency, James Tora was declared the winner.

The contituency was made vacant when Nathaniel Waena was appointed Governor-General.
