Tuna Commission gears up for first meeting

2:09 pm on 7 December 2004

Officials have been meeting in the Federated States of Micronesia to finalise work ahead of Thursday's first meeting of the Tuna Commission.

The conference delegates have been encouraged to get the commission up and running as quickly as possible so new controls on tuna fishing on the high seas, the area outside exclusive economic zones, can be brought in.

Giff Johnson reports from Pohnpei.

"The first meeting of the Tuna Commission happens on Thursday this week and the meeting earlier this week have been basically the final preparatory work to get the recommendations all in place so that the commission can take off."
