Air Pacific worried about low-cost carriers

Fiji's national airline, Air Pacific, has expressed concern about the impact of low cost carriers on its future viability.

Fiji TV reports that already 50 jobs will go as the airline restructures to cut costs.

The competition has also set back Air Pacific's 600-million US dollar fleet upgrading plan.

Virgin Pacific and Freedom Air entered the Fiji market this year, offering low cost tickets though electronic ticketing.

Their entry was welcomed by the tourist industry.
