Code of Conduct launched for NZ tourists heading to the Pacific

Concerns over the negative impact of tourism on Pacific Island culture and environments has prompted a new campaign to teach New Zealanders to be responsible while on holiday.

The "Responsible Tourism Code for the Pacific" encourages people to learn about the country they are visiting and avoid the common pitfalls.

The pointers range from not taking coral from reefs, to what clothing and how much bartering is appropriate.

The project developers say tourists need to accept personal responsibility for how their actions can have social, cultural and environmental impacts.
