Solomons Prime Minister warns MPs not to derail budget

8:09 am on 14 December 2004

The Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Sir Allan Kemakeza, has warned members of Parliament not to derail the 2005 Budget with petty politics.

The Prime Minister cautioned against any unnecessary delays as the budget was ready for further Parliamentary scrutiny clause by clause in the Committee of Supply Stage.

The Solomon Island Broadcasting Corporation says Parliament passed the 2005 Budget last week after its second reading.

Sir Allan said the most important thing MPs must do is to put the interest of the people of Solomon Islands first by ensuring the 2005 Budget goes through.

He warned parliamentarians against personalising the issue, thus depriving Solomon Islanders from enjoying the benefits it offers in services as of early next year.

The Prime Minister said any political differences held by MPs must not be allowed to go beyond the floor of parliament to jeopardize the process.
