Pacific Forum ready help French Polynesia achieve political stability

8:01 pm on 23 December 2004

The Pacific Islands Forum remains committed to sending a fact finding mission to French Polynesia to see what help it can offer to ease the political instability there.

The Forum made an offer to send a mission six weeks ago, and while France accepted, it later deferred the visit.

The Forum secretary general, Greg Urwin, says they still want to go - he says it is one of the means by which the Forum can make good its engagement with the territory, which earlier this year became an observer at the Forum.

"We are basically in a position where anything that we might be able to do that will produce a stable and just result there - we would be happy to do."
