Samoa's prime minister and the current chair of the Pacific Islands Forum, Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, has expressed shock and deep sadness at this week's fatal shooting of an Australian police officer in Solomon Islands.

Tuilaepa says despite the success of the Regional Assistance Mission, the killing underscores the risks associated with the operation.

He says much remains for the mission to do to help the government and people of Solomon Islands.Austyralian
