Former PNG Prime Minister, Bill Skate, knighted in New Year's Honours

Former Papua New Guinea Prime Minister, Bill Skate, has been awarded a knighthood in the New Year's honours.

The National Capital District MP, who was prime minister from 1997 to 1999, has been made a Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Michael and Saint George .

He was previously a Companion of that order (CMG) and now becomes Sir William Jack Skate.

Moresby South MP, Lady Carol Kidu, was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire.

The Australian Associated Press says the former West New Britain parliamentarian, Lucas Waka, was awarded a Knight Bachelor for services to politics.
