Statistics indicate there has been a substantial increase in tourism investment in the Pacific Islands in recent years.

The figures come from a regional tourism survey conducted by the Fiji-based South Pacific Tourism Organisation.

An SPTO technical adviser, Ross Hopkins, says the statistics indicate a growing confidence in the tourism sector in the Pacific, which follows a period of sustained growth in the market and increasing profitability for operators.

He said the indications are that this level of investment will continue with several major projects coming on-line in Fiji, Samoa and the Cook Islands.
