PNG police review election strategies

10:43 am on 5 January 2005

The police in Papua New Guinea plan to review their strategies for election operations because of the high costs involved and in order to ensure accountability.

The Deputy Police Commissioner, Gari Baki, said the 2002 elections budget allocation was insufficient to meet their operational costs.

He also told the National newspaper that various by-elections required more money and it was necessary to devise strategies and plans to effectively cater for similar operations in future.
