Tropical Cyclone Kerry moves through Vanuatu chain

10:24 am on 7 January 2005

Forecasters say Tropical Cyclone Kerry is moving through the Vanuatu island chain this morning with winds of more than 80 kilometres an hour, and is expected to weaken.

The duty forecaster at the Vanuatu Meteorological Service, David Gibson, says heavy rain will affect the whole country and some rivers will breach their banks.

He says sea flooding is expected in some low-lying coastal areas and all boats are advised to seek shelter.
