Britain seeks social workers for Pitcairn

12:01 pm on 12 January 2005

Britain is reportedly advertising for a number of social workers on Pitcairn.

The newspaper, the New Zealand Herald, reports the Safe Overseas Services has placed press adverts, seeking staff for four month postings beginning next month.

The newspaper said the applicants should have what it called an "understanding of the dynamics of sexual abuse for victims and offenders".

Four men, including the Pitcairn mayor, were last year given prison sentences from two to six years for a range of rapes and indecent assaults.

It's not clear how many social workers will be recruited nor how much they will be paid.
