Two high profile former political rivals are among the 64 candidates for Tonga's parliamentary elections in March.

Tonga's former minister of police, Clive Edwards, who was controversially sacked last year is a candidate for Tongatapu.

The former head of the Human Rights and Democracy Movement, Lopeti Senituli has also signalled his intention to stand in the seat.

13 more candidates are contesting this year than the last election in 2002.

The largest constituency of Tongatapu fielded 31 candidates, almost double the number in the last election.

Only six of the 64 candidates are women.
