Solomon Islander charged with murder of Australian police officer

Murder accused James Tatau appeared before a Solomon Island Magistrates Court on Tuesday and has been charged on one count of murder and three counts of attempted murder.

The Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporatio reports Tatau was charged with the murder of Australian Police Officer Adam Dunning, the attempted murder of his colleague, and the attempted murder of two other Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands police officers during a shooting in October.

Tatau has been remanded in custody to appear before the court again on the 25th of January.

Police arrested Tatau on Tuesday.

John Hen Ome, the other person charged for the murder of officer Dunning and attempted murder of the driver of the vehicle is being kept in custody after a remand appearance at Rove Prison last week.

Ome will appear for a hearing on the 18th of January.
