Some Pacific communications disrupted by off-course satellite

Communication links are being restored after a satellite problem affected parts of the Pacific.

The fault at Intelsat cut links to several Pacific island, including French Polynesia and American Samoa.

In some cases all links were down for hours.

In New Caledonia, the local telephone provider says lines have been re-established after switching to another satellite.

The link was cut after a satellite drifted off its course.
