Armed robbers known to police staged a rampage in the Fiji capital Suva yesterday carrying out at more than half a dozen attacks.
They attempted to rob Suva's only cinema complex early yesterday, attacked several suburban supermarkets and businessmen, and in one case attacked a company vehicle making a dummy run to the bank.
An Australian tourist was also assaulted and robbed of more than $4,000 dollars in cash as well as jewellery and personal belongings as he sat eating in a restaurant.
The police commissioner, Andrew Hughes, says the crime rate in Fiji needs to be re-assessed due to the high number of robberies and homicides in the country since the New Year.
