Virgin Islands to observe American Samoa financial system model

2:58 pm on 20 January 2005

Officials from the US Virgin Islands will soon be arriving in American Samoa to get help from the territorial government in setting up its financial accounting systems.

This follows a recommendation by a team from the US Department of Education that has been reviewing progress made by American Samoa in getting itself out of high risk status.

The territorial government was given this label by the US DOE last year because it had not produced single audit reports for a number of years.

Leader of the US DOE delegation Phil Maestri says the government's financial system is a model for other insular areas to follow.
