2:57 pm on 20 January 2005

East Tamaki Healthcare in New Zealand is trying to recruit nurses from Fiji, after failing to fill six vacant position with New Zealand nurses.

Practise Manager, Ranjna Patel, says the surgeries are in a low socio economic area which puts many New Zealand nurses off.

Ms Patel says they will arrange work visas for anyone who is successful.

She says they are targetting nurse from Fiji because of their positive work ethic.

"On my staff I have several nurses from Fiji who have qualified in Fiji and I have found them to be competent and the work ethics are very good and the patients really appreciate the service they give."

Ms Patel says the nurses will have to go through a six week practise nurse training programme before starting work.
