Provincial magistrates will strengthen justice system, says Solomon Islands Home Affairs minister

The Solomon Islands' Minister of Home Affairs, Nelson Kile, says posting a magistrate to each of the provinces will strengthen the justice system.

His comments come after the chief justice, Albert Palmer, announced his intention to have magistrates operating in each provincial centre this year.

While security concerns are one of the main obstacles to posting magistrates to the provinces, Mr Kile says Solomon Islanders are tired of militants and are willing to co-operate to bring them to justice.

"I think it's very important because most of the court cases, my understanding is that they are always late. So placing magistrates in the provinces will be a very good idea. Actually it's a big step to do that. Definitely it will strengthen the justice system."
