Fiji consultancy says Labour could win election

9:23 am on 3 February 2005

A Fiji-based investment business consultancy company has assessed the current political climate in the country and says the Labour Party has a good chance of winning next year's general election.

Fiji TV reports that the company provides advice on the positives and negatives of the possible return to power of the Mahendra Chaudhry-led government, which was deposed in the May 2000 coup.

The report says the Laisenia Qarase-led SDL government could lose power to a resurgent Labour Party.

It highlights that extremist nationalists will cause unrest if an Indo-Fijian becomes prime minister.

Fiji TV says it was not given permission to identify the company or the authors of the report.
