An Australian Federal Police spokesperson won't confirm that a recently discovered abandoned car is the focus of an intensified investigation into the murder of Jannelle Patton on Norfolk Island nearly three years ago.

Ms Patton's battered body was found on March 31st 2002 at a Norfolk scenic reserve.

A 1984 white Honda sedan that may have been used in the killing was found last month, prompting police investigators to return to the island.

But an AFP spokesperson will only say that they are following several lines of enquiry.
