8:42 am on 11 February 2005

The Fiji coup front man, George Speight, is to appear in court again today in a case filed by the prime minister he deposed and held hostage, Mahendra Chaudhry.

Radio Legend reports that Mr Chaudhry and other ministers of his coalition government have taken Speight, the government, the police and the military to court for not protecting the elected government in 2000.

The former ministers are claiming millions of dollars in damages for their early removal from office, and their injuries, trauma and ill treatment during nearly two months in captivity at gunpoint.

The case will be heard by Justice Gerard Winters in the Suva High Court.
